Black Gold
WALT:We are learning about events that happen around the world.
Hair Agents in China are going around their country so that they can take hair from little girls who have long hair, most of the girls don't want to but the parents do it for the money. Black Gold Link!
I think this article is about the kids around the world who get their hair cut so that their parents can get paid and the hair gets turned into a wig and the people who turns the hair into wigs try to leave no trace of the owner on the hair. Even if it's around the world hair is mostly cut in China and people sell them in the streets. I think this article is really important because it seems to me that the reason why parents over China are getting their daughters hair cut is because they really need the money for it and it seems like they are struggling to get some cause they are just in little villages. I think that this article is sad because of the way that the girls emotions stays the same before and after their hair is cut which is depressed or sad. The reason why I said depressed or sad is because of they way that the girls face looked. They are talking about how the kids are getting tricked into cutting their hair for a toy, some women get held down until the gang members chop off their hair. Did you know that the Kardashians dye their hair or make it longer every month so they are using a lot of hair for extensions.
The authors purpose of this article is to try and tell the audience that taking hair from little girls is a big problem because it seems to me that most of them don't want their hair to be cut. The reason I think that is because in the article is said that a girl didn't want her hair cut but her parents did so she tried to run away from home but her parents dragged her back to the hair agent so her hair could be cut. That's how desperate people in China want money. I think that the authors purpose of this article is to tell us that hair is being cut around the world mostly the virgin hair which means it hasn't been dyed yet, that is why they mostly go for the little girls because they don dye their hair.
The reason I think there is such high demand in hair is because their is many people who don't have much hair so they need a wig to cover their head so people around the world cut their hair to make profit over it. The most paid hair is virgin hair because it hasn't been dyed and people call virgin hair black gold because families and hair agents make a lot of money off of black gold. Dyed hair is also a lot of money but it isn't as much as black gold.
I think that kids around the world would still cut their hair but they won't sell it to hair agents they would either just cut their hair because it's too long or that they cut their hair so that they can give it to kids who need hair like kids with cancer. I think that it would be a big change around the world because the people who make money off hair like the parents who accept that their children has to get their hair cut might not have as much money as they did. I think it would be a huge difference in the world because their would be no hair agents and that kids won't have to suffer about looking like a boy.
My opinion: I think that cutting hair to make a profit out of it is disgusting and the parents who accept that their daughters hair getting cut is just sad because they probably don't even care about what their daughter wants.
The thing I found challenging about this was reading the article because their was like reading a whole novel in one hour. My next steps for next time is to include more information in my work and to write more sentences about what happened.

What I really enjoyed about this article is was getting to know that some of the newest technologies can be dangerous. Celebrations Of November
What I found really challenging was trying to figure out who made Thanksgiving Abraham Lincoln or the Pilgrims and the Indians. At the end I just went with Abraham Lincoln.
What I enjoyed most about this activity was to know more information about Thanksgiving and how it came to be.
We have a similar celebration in New Zealand called Waitangi Day in February when we all celebrate how wonderful New Zealand is.

Is sports sexist
The thing I found challenging was answering the questions because it was really difficult finding out who was the captain of the black ferns and writing her name was even harder. What I enjoyed the most was getting to know new things about the difference between male and female sports.
When I play for a rugby club we have girls that play with us and they are pretty good at playing rugby.
The thing I might do differently next time is to write my article in a drawing so that I can get more blog post.
I only have one question for people. Why are people being sexist towards female sports players?

Today is speech day and this is when we are saying our speeches.
My speech is about the effects of food.
The reason I am going to be talking about the effects of food is because many people around the world are obese and they need to lose the weight because it is not healthy for others.
The other reason is because many obese people are being bullied for the way they look. We are also doing a speech presentation so that your buddy can show the photos to the class while we say our speech.
The other reason is for people to choose the right food so they can eat healthy and wouldn't have to worry about there health problems.
I really love my speech and I really hope that other people do and I hope my classmates learn a little something from my speech.

Brando Yelavich- Reflection
The book I read today was the "Wildboy".
The book is about a man named Brando who went on a journey adventurous journey. The journey he went on was going around the coastline of New Zealand and it took him 600 days to walk around the whole coast line and that whole coast line is 15,000 kilometres.
On his journey he even ate a squashed weta that was under his shoe. He even ate a possum (Gross).
The thing that I really liked about this article was that he went on that journey so he could earn some money for the Ronald Mcdonald charity group. He raised about 30,000 dollars for them.
When he finished his journey he noticed that all the technology in the world distracts us all from the real world.
My favourite part about the book was when it said he had a crossbow and a air rifle and he used it to hunt goats and pigs.
My least favourite thing about the book was the when he ate a wea and the possum.

Music Reflection
Today was our 15th music session and we learnt that the instrument of the day is the Nanigo.
The first thing we did was to grab our books out and write what was said on the video.
My favourite part of the session was that it we got to do some drumming and we got to make your own beat which was really cool.
The part I didn't like about the session was having to watch the video for a while.
The drum style for today was the Cabasa. The Cabasa was a really cool beat which used 6th notes instead of 4th notes.
The beats that we used today were really cool because it sounded like one person. The reason it sounded like one person is because everyone was clapping at the same time.
The thing I am looking forward to for next week is the drumming because me and my friend Metui get to call the shoots throughout the whole thing.

For today's Kiwi Can reflection we learned about the school values.

It was called the spoon and you had to say one of the values when he points it at you but you have to say it at the same time as the beat.
What game did you play with him for your activity?
It wasn't really a game it was actually a skit and the skit me and my friends did was about a Mexican guy who was drunk and looking at a man and he thought it was a hot girl. He tried to pick her up but the girl went to these African American guys and he asked them if they wanted to go eat something. The Mexican got angry and friend to have a fight with them. The Mexican said she belongs to me but the guy said he was a man. The Mexican put his glasses on and saw that it was a Man, he apologized to the African Americans and peace was made but not with they man.

Maths Reflection
Today for our maths me and my class learned about the magic square. The point of the game is to try and make every row, column, and diagonal equal 24 and everyone in our class found it quite easy and figured it out quickly.
The thing I didn't like about today's activity was that I kept mucking up so that I wrote my maths task on the back of the sheet.
He is a picture of the magic square. The reason why 6, 7 , and 10 has a yellow background is because they were the numbers that were already on the sheet. If you see the image you will notice that there 1 of each number.
For today's task I am learning to make each row equal 24.

Ancient and Modern sports
Ancient and Modern Olympic sports
Today I am going to be talking about the ancient and modern sports of the Olympics.
Ancient Sports
A long time ago in Greece there was Olympics and there were only few sports in the Olympics, the thing was that only free men who could speak Greek could join the Olympics. Greece was the only one that could participate in the Olympics and the Olympics didn’t go to different countries. Some sports that were a part of the Olympics back in the day were: Javelin, athletics, Pentathlon, and Horse Racing. In the Greek Olympics men had to do their sports naked and married women weren’t allowed to do the Olympics and if they tried to they would get a death Penalty.
Modern Sports
Now women are allowed to participate in the Olympics, there are new sports that are now a part of the Olympics and they are: The rugby union, golf, shooting, and water polo. Ever since the Olympics started the Olympics were held at different countries. Nowadays people use a torch for the meaning of the Olympic games going Greece to other countries. We now have values and there are three of them, they are: Friendship, Respect and Excellence. Nowadays there is something called the paralympics and it is for paralyzed people who have special talents like being able to play basketball. There values are: Determination, Inspiration, Courage and Equality.
The differences between Ancient and Modern Sports
The difference between ancient and modern is that ancient sports were only for men and modern sports has men and woman. Ancient sports has a death penalty for married woman if they try to take part in the Olympics but in modern times there is no death penalty and they get to participate in the Olympics. Ancient sports participants are considered heroes or legends when they win the whole thing but modern sports a considered winners. Ancient sports participants that win there sport were rewarded with an olive branch that you put on your head and in the modern sports you win medals: Gold, Silver, and Bronze. In ancient greece the age to join the Olympics in 12 and now it’s 16 and over. If someone had a false start they would be whipped disqualified and but in the modern sports they would just be disqualified.
Modern sports is all about winning a medal, striving for success, following the Olympic values, making your country proud, and striving for victory.
Ancient sports is all about showing off your skills, being a hero, and entertainment.
The main difference between modern and ancient sports is that ancient sports was a long time ago even in B.C. and modern sports started in 1896.

Unusual Resorts In the World
Unusual places in the world
For today my unusual place is Hapuku Lodge. It is located in the near the kaikoura mountains which is in New Zealand. Interesting fact: The houses are 30ft above the ground. The best time of the year that you can visit is probably summer. Hapuku lodge is 895.4km from Auckland. For one night it would be $1,536

Here are 5 benefits for living there:
- You can get a great view of your surroundings.
- You can go explore your surroundings and find new things.
- You can find new animals that you haven’t seen before.
- It might be a good place for you and your family to work things out.
- It might be a good time for your kids to connect with each other and so that they can become good friends.
Here are 3 downsides for living there:
- You might be climbing up to your room but then you break something and you fall down and break an arm.
- You might be looking at the stars on the roof but then trip up on something and fall all the way to the ground and break some of your bones.
- You're probably wondering around your surroundings and than you find something chasing you and than you get bitten and than you have to go hospital.

Safe (Dogs)

Today I am going to talk about how to be safe around dogs, what people like about dogs and why people don’t like dogs.
What do people like about dogs?
The things that people like about dogs are that they look cute when they are born and that they look like hotdogs. The thing that I like about dogs are that they protect you from robbers or criminals. The best part about dogs are that they guide blind people around the streets and that they help stop criminals from getting away. They keep you company and they are fun to be around. They can help find drugs at the airport at at people’s homes.
What do people hate about dogs?
The thing that people hate about dogs are that they bite people for no reason, they sniff other dogs butts. They leave fur on the couch and rip up your pillow. They might pee on you or they might pee in the garden, when you leave them in the backyard they might poop everywhere and you are left to pick it up.
How do you keep yourself safe from dogs?
Put them on a leash in case they try to bite you or people around you, you put a muzzle around their mouth so that they don’t hurt anybody. You can call the animal control so they can take the dogs away.
The best way to be safe around dogs is to train them so that the dogs know how to act properly around humans. The main reason that people like dogs is because they are like your bestfriend, the main reason why people don’t like dogs is because they sometimes try to bite you. The best way to keep safe from dogs is to make sure that they are on a leash or that they are super trained.
I am learning to write about the things you do when you are around dogs.

My opinion on the Olympics
My Opinion on the olympics.
WALT: Write our own opinion on if athletes are allowed to use illegal drugs in the Olympics.
Today for my information report I am going to be talking about if athletes are allowed to use illegal drugs or not.
What would you like to see changed: The thing that I would like to see changed are that nobody uses illegal drugs so that the game can be fair. The thing that I want to change is that when a couple people from one country (Russia) use illegal drugs that only they get banned so that their teammates won’t miss out on their opportunity to participate in the Olympics. The Olympics is a sports tournament where you show off your natural talent/skills now people are just using drugs to win.
How things would change: The thing that I would like changed is that the urine test is taken before and after they play, when they are doing a urine test someone has to go to the bathroom with them so that they don’t do anything tricky, what I would like to see changed is that they check every single athlete’s ID before they enter the Olympics so that they make sure that every single person that is joining the Olympics are actually adults.
Why things should change: The reason why things should change is so that Olympic can actually become a tournament where you can show off your amazing skills. The reason why things should change is so that people can play fair and so that when people when they don’t have to worry if they cheated or not. When they when people don’t have to worry if they took drugs. These are the reason why I want things changed.

Today for my information report my topic is fame.
What does it mean to be famous: Being famous means being involved with movies or being known for doing amazing things like working at an orphanage for your whole life. Being famous means being known for a great reason. Being famous is a person that is well known around the world for a good and positive reason.
What are the benefits of being famous: The benefits of being famous is giving autographs to people who appreciate what you do, you get really good opportunities that make you even more successful or respected. You can get a lot of privileges for example: You can get a lot of money. You get to show up in advertisements. You get to buy things for your family and you get to provide them with food and shelter.
What are the downsides of being famous: A downside for being famous ios you might end up getting robbed, a lot of paparazzi might take a photo of you and it might become annoying for you. There can be a lot of stalkers that stalk you house, you might be travelling too much to your concerts and might not have enough time for your family. You might have crazy fans (Number 1 fan) that try to follow you around to get a lot of autographs.

My unusual resort is Natura Vive Skylodge Adventure Suite. The place is located in the highest peak of Peru (That’s a bit scary) and it is 1,200 feet above the ground. I think that the best time to go to the Skylodge is in summer. The distance Peru is from New Zealand is 10,972 km. The skylodge is only overnight and the costs to stay there is $718.00.
Here are 5 benefits about the skylodge:
When you get up there you might see a really great view.
You might gain really strength in our arms because you climb up and down the mountain.
The place is a really good place to go exercise and go for runs.
You get really good food there and it can be a good place for you to take really good photos.
The best thing about this that you can spend really good time with your family and it can help you come together.
Here are 3 downsides about the skylodge:
One downside about the skylodge is that people might be really scared about heights and ends up not wanting to climb up to the lodge.
The second downside of the skylodge is that the ropes that attach the lodge to the mountain might rip and the guests would probably plummet to their death.
When they are climbing up and a person holds on to the ladder but a piece of the ladder breaks and they fall down to their death.
